As promised, here’s the DM that I sent to Dan (co-founder of the agency I’m interning for). After the conversation continued via email, I had a coffee catch up with the Strategy Director and now it’s my fourth week as an intern.
Special shoutout to the team Cam, Nate, and Tim for helping out!
Working in an advertising agency 🔎
At first, I didn’t know the role that I wanted, that’s why I only asked for an internship instead of a more specific role. After talking to the Strategy Director, it's clear that a strategy role best fit my capabilities.
My work as strategy intern in an agency varies from doing competitor research all the way to generating creative brief for the advertising campaign. Some would say strategy is planning, but for me it’s far more profound than that. It’s also questioning the assumptions behind the brief, figuring out a SMART goal for the campaign, and repositioning brands to set them up for long term success.
One of the main reason why I wanted to work in an agency is because I get to experience different projects. So far, I’ve worked on at least three different campaigns which were super fun. What I didn’t expect was the rapid turnarounds yet casual nature of the industry.
Having such a supportive supervisor is amazing. More than just working on stuff, she got me to be involved with interesting workshops and insightful presentations which is such a valuable experience!
Feel free to ask me questions 😊
Why I’m back to writing despite my busy schedule
If you wonder what motivates me to write after missing a few weeks and super hectic work + college life, enjoy this 👇
Ps. My writing style is different than what you usually read, but it’s closer to how I actually talk IRL.
See you next week!
I’m gonna let you know about why I stopped with newsletter for a while and maybe updates about my e-commerce store (it’s been 💹).
